I love doing flower related crafts. It is always fun to make them and teens, believe it or not, love them. I had made flower crowns before, but knew that flower headbands would be super easy and much cheaper. This is a great craft for Renaissance Fairs, fantasy fans, etc. It can also be great for taking photos, so set up a photo booth with some additional props and let the tweens and teens snap their little hearts away.

Pick out a headband and the flowers you want to add to your headband. You’ll want to have a pretty decent selection, so this is where the bulk of your cost will come in. You can get a bulk order of headbands online. For example, you can get 50 satin headbands in bulk from Amazon for $12.99.

Cut the stems at least 2 inches away from the flower using your wire cutter. You want the extra length to make sure you can fasten it to the headbands. Sometimes you can use scissors, but this will damage your scissors, can take more time and be frustrating, and is more likely to lead to error. Definitely get a good pair of wirecutters.

Place the flower on the headband and start taping it with the floral tape. Do not be afraid to use a lot of tape. Avoid taping close to the flower head as that could make the flower pop off. Using floral tape and the flower stem to affix the flower to the band gives it more stability and longevity. You might think you should just use the flower head and hot glue it on directly to the band, but it is much more likely to fall off using this method. Florists have long been using floral tape to do floral crafts and with a good reason, it works well.

Keep placing flowers up and down the headband. Try to find a design you like. The floral tape is sticky but will dry with time.

I quickly learned not to cut my flowers too close to the bud. You really needed to have the stem space to tape the flowers onto the headband.

Once you already have the wire cutters on hand, flower crafts can become more cost effective. If you want additional flower crafts, you can have more than one flower craft project available at the program. For example, I did use the leftovers to make flower pens.
